US-UK EXTRADITION TREATY IN SENATE HEARINGS THURS. SEPT. 7^TH

  On Thursday September 7^th the US-UK Extradition Treaty will again go before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for hearings.  If passed by committee, it will then go to the US Senate for ratification or denial.  PLEASE HELP BLOCK THIS TREATY.  The British Government is going on an all-out offensive to have this Treaty passed in America, to save Tony Blair further embarrassment back home, and as payback for Britain’s participation in the US invasion of Iraq. 

REMIND YOUR SENATORS UK CITIZENS DON’T VOTE HERE – WE DO. 

If passed, this Treaty will allow Britain the right to: 

· Extradite and imprison any American citizen WITHOUT proof of guilt and without judicial review
· Build a case for extradition and imprisonment against an American citizen on the word of a single witness
· Detain in custody and “provisionally arrest” any American citizen for up to 60 days
· Build a case for extradition and imprisonment even if no US law has been broken
· Detain, deport and arrest any American citizen for activities taking place many years ago
· Detain, deport and arrest any American citizen without “prima fasciae” physical evidence; unsupported allegations will be sufficient
· Seize assets and property of American citizens after they are deported
· Rubbish the “political exemption” clause cherished as an American liberty and held since Founding Father Thomas Jefferson refused to extradite an opponent of the French Revolution  

Tell your Senators to OPPOSE this very un-American and dangerous treaty!!  Remind them that Britain has an atrocious human rights record, that the British government has a documented history of collusion between security forces and Loyalist paramilitaries in the murder of Irish civilians in Ireland, and that British courts have committed numerous instances of decades-long wrongful imprisonment (The Birmingham Six, The Guildford Four, The Maguire Seven, etc etc). 

Tell your Senators to block this Treaty that would extradite American citizens to a country with such a tainted judicial record -- and to stand trial and be jailed by a country that has NO BILL OF RIGHTS.
