1981 Hunger Strike at Long Kesh Prison, Ireland
The C.H.S.C.C. continues our yearlong Commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the 1981 Hunger Strike with an educational Film Screening and Discussion on Saturday April 29th at 5:00 PM at ACME Artists Collective, Chicago. We will be screening “Some Mothers Son” (Terry George, 1996), based on the true story of the 1981 hunger strike at Long Kesh prison, Occupied North of Ireland; where ten young Irish men died in protest to be treated as Political Prisoners rather than criminals. The film focuses on the mothers of two of the hunger strikers, and their struggle to save the lives of their sons.
The film screening will be followed by an open forum discussion with personal insights, Questions and Answers taken from members of the Chicago Hunger Strike Commemoration Committee.
