In honor of the 25th Anniversary of the 1981 Hunger Strike at Long Kesh Prison, the Irish Freedom Committee of New Mexico screened the extraordinary film "Some Mother's Son" at the legendary Guild Cinema on Thursday September 14th for for three showings. Attendance was high and a lively and informative discussion was held during the afternoon screening. IFC New Mexico Chairman Chuck McLaughlin reports: Response during the Q&A session was all positive, with really educated and interesting questions. Among the attendees we had a journalist and a UNM history professor. Lots of folks asked about the US-UK Extradition Treaty and expressed an interest in writing our Senators. All of the information, pamphlets etc. were taken by attendees. The theater owner was terrific and wants to work on other projects in the future. (One supporter) came down from northern NM. A member of the Irish Freedom Movement in Scotland showed up and really wants to learn more. A couple of former A.I.M. members attended. Our folks here really went all out with the public. A real group effort.
This film "Some Mothers Son" is a fictional account of the 1981 hunger strikes at Long Kesh Prison,
where Bobby Sands and nine others gave their lives in a fight for
Political Status for al Irish Republican political prisoners.
