at Celtic Nations Fest

The Ronan MacLochlainn Cumann of the Irish Freedom Committee took part in the organizing of the "Celtic Nations Festival" in Albuquerque NM that took place Saturday September 17, 2005.

Committee member Robert Hickey served on the "Mapping Committee" and also helped with the media.

Committee member Chuck McLaughlin acted as the Point Person with the media and the local politicians. He was also called upon to read the proclamation from Albuquerque Mayor Martin Chavez. Mayor Chavez declared September 17, 2005 "Celtic Nations Day" in Albuquerque.

Approximately 800 people attended the festival, of these at least 200 visited the IFC tents.
Dozens of pamphlets and flyers were given out.

Visitors were very receptive to the educational material available, more than a few took IFC membership applications. Many visitors expressed genuine interest and a couple of people volunteered to help with any future projects.

The Cumann held hourly raffles, the prizes included several pieces of prison handicrafts, books and fishing gear.

A number of Tee Shirts and Bumper Stickers were sold, as is evidenced in one of the pictures, (we have no idea who owns the black Subaru).

Free balloons were given to the kids, bottled water was provided to all visitors as well.
Live performances at the IFC tent helped to bring people around as well.

Security was provided by a company that uses off duty military and police, the Security staff spent most of the day in the IFC tent for the music and lively conversation.

The "Celtic Nations Festival" served as a catalyst for future events in the Albuquerque area.  The Cumann also plans to participate in a two day festival in Rio Rancho NM in October.
