THE IRISH FREEDOM COMMITTEE  

 Original Corporate Charter For
The Irish Freedom Committee

 August 9, 1961

The State of New York

 WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, of full age, being desirous of associating ourselves together for the purposes as hereinafter more particularly described, pursuant to and in conformity with the Membership Corporations Law of the State of New York:

 “That the particular objects for which said Corporation is formed are as follows, vis.:   

The Irish Freedom Committee shall support Ireland’s right to complete national independence as based on the Proclamation of Easter Monday, 1916, and the Declaration of Independence issued by Dail Eireann on January 21, 1919;

 To instill an intimate knowledge of Ireland’s fight for freedom through the centuries in the Irish people in America;

 To spread the true story of the contribution of the Irish Race to the cause of American independence and freedom on the battlefield and at the council table; 

To promote with all our strength and ability, a close feeling of friendship and goodwill between the Irish people and the people and government of the United States of America; 

The Irish Freedom Committee shall forever be a patriotic, non-sectarian, non-political organization. 

The organization may, from time to time, engage in the promotion of such lawful activities as will bring before the American people the objects for which it was formed.

The organization shall not at any time be controlled or influenced by any other body, either inside or outside the United States of America.”

The original State certified documents and signatures of the Founding Directors are on file at the   National offices of the Irish Freedom Committee®    

The forgoing is the original purpose for the founding of the Irish Freedom Committee; the principles voiced above are embodied into the current Bylaws and Mission Statement of the Irish Freedom Committee®, as it is written today.   Michael Flannery joined his contemporaries in the IFC in 1987, after quitting Noraid and was immediately elected its Chairman.  Four and one half years after Flannery’s death in 1994, the IFC was reorganized under the Chairmanship of Joe Dillon of Boston at the “First National Coordinating Convention”, which was held In New York city May 24, 1998.  1998 marked the launching of the IFC as a nation-wide organization; the new organization was incorporated in the State of Illinois; the name was trademarked with the United States Patent and Trademark Offices.  It was so resolved by the Board of Directors and ratified by its full membership, in an open and democratic forum.
