AIDAN and ROBERT HULME REPATRIATED to PORTLAOISE December 5, 2006 The Irish Freedom Committee welcomes the news that AIDAN and ROBERT HULME, brothers and Irish Republican POWs who have been held in several different British jails over the past three years, are finally repatriated home to serve their sentences in Ireland. The Hulme family has suffered tremendously throughout Robert and Aidan's long fight for repatriation. Aidan Hulme suffered grave medical abuse throughout his three-year ordeal, being told at one point by prison doctors that his leg would be amputated at the jail in lieu of proper medical care. The Hulme family was forced by the British Government to provide a massive extortion fee of over $8,000 US to guarantee their son's urgent medical treatment at a London hospital, help which was provided in donations by supporters of the Irish Freedom Committee, and republican prisoners' welfare groups in Ireland and England. The money was finally returned in full to the family, after widespread exposure and condemnation of this barbaric demand on a frightened family.
