JIM McCORMACK REPATRIATED TO PORTLAOISE |
|
Thursday May 25, 2006 We are pleased to report that Jim McCormack has been repatriated to Portlaoise prison in Ireland, after a sustained struggle with the Free State Justice Department that has cruelly dragged on for the past three years. One week ago Jim was abruptly ghosted from his cell at Full Sutton at two o’clock in the morning, leaving his whereabouts for the next 48 hours a mystery to his family and supporters. Jim’s repatriation back to Ireland last night is great news to his family and six young children, one of who was an infant at the time of his incarceration in England in 2002. As IFC supporters are well aware this long journey to England to visit their father was very stressful for the family and a great financial burden. The Irish Freedom Committee would like to thank all of our members and supporters who have lobbied the Free State Justice Department to allow Jim to return to Ireland to serve out his sentence, as has been his right since 2002. We are disgusted that this process took four years to be completed, as any British prisoner would have been promptly returned to an English jail within 9 to 12 months had the situation been the other way around. Please write to Jim and welcome him home! Jim McCormack Portlaoise Prison Portlaoise, Co. Laois Ireland
