Maghaberry Update – Hunger and Thirst strike averted

The Irish Freedom Committee has just learned that swift action on the
part of Belfast prisoner's welfare activists has ended a potentially
deadly hunger and thirst strike by an Irish Republican political
prisoner at Maghaberry jail.

Terry McCafferty began refusing food and water on Easter Sunday after
Republican prisoners were refused their family visits for not removing
their Easter lilies. The lilies are worn worldwide on Easter week in
honor of Ireland's dead.

Terry was singled out for harsh punishment for refusing to remove his
Easter lily when ordered to by screws, and was sent to solitary
confinement where he refused food and water from Sunday until today.
Terry has had his demand met to be released from punishment, and has
now been returned to his cell where he awaits a Judicial Review of
this incident.

Please send cards and letters to Terry McCafferty and other Irish
Republican Political Prisoners!! Your mail goes a long way in
boosting moral support.
