Pol Brennan deported in shackles to Ireland

After being held for the past 18 months
without charge in US federal prison, since being stopped at a routine
border check in Texas in January 2008 while en route to a family
christening, Pol Brennan was deported to Ireland Friday after losing a
hard-fought battle to keep this 25-year resident of the US here with his
wife and American-born children.

devastating and senseless federal action will have on the families of
other former Irish political prisoners, currently living and working
openly as contributing members of American society.

Dear (elected official),
I am contacting you on behalf of Pol Brennan, and Irish man detained in
a Texas jail for over one year now. Last week, an immigration judge
ruled that he be deported on Monday May 18th to Ireland. Mr. Brennan has
never been charged in this country or any other with any terrorist
crimes. He has lived in this country peacefully, and has been a
contributing American taxpayer, for over 20 years now; and has a family
and business here.
I am asking that you please contact Homeland Security Director Janet
Napolitano to ask that she POSTPONE the deportation of Pól Brennan, to
at least allow her time to review Mr. Brennan’s legal request for a
waiver in his case. As Mr. Brennan has been given only a week in which
to apply for a stay of deportation, there can be little time to review
the details of his urgent appeal.

Listen again to Pol’s words – this is an innocent man’s last cry for
help. His family is here, his life and business are here, he does not
pose any flight risk and has never been charged with any terrorist
offense here in the US, nor by the British Diplock courts in Occupied
Ireland, or anywhere else! Only one, lone, US Immigration judge has
arbitrarily and baselessly laid this charge on him, merely after he was
stopped at a border checkpoint on his way from California to Texas for a
family event.
