IFC condemns 'ghosting' of Irish POW from British jail

[IFCNewsList] Saturday May 20, 2006

The Irish Freedom Committee condemns the clandestine removal late last
night of Irish Republican prisoner Jim McCormack from his cell at Full
Sutton to Belmarsh prison, London. No reason for his removal has been
given to his family, who until hours ago were still not told of his
whereabouts.

In the past the British government has often "ghosted" Irish
Republican prisoners in the dead of night, as it did last night with
Jim McCormack, to jails far apart from one another. This practice
only adds further stress and worry to already over-burdened families.

The Irish Freedom Committee joins concerned activists in Ireland and
England in calling for an end to the unnecessary and cruel practice of
"ghosting" Irish Republican political prisoners, and for the immediate
Repatriation of Jim McCormack and six other Irish Republican POWs
being held in England, to Ireland, as is their right!
