TIPS for WRITING to IRISH REPUBLICAN POWs

Letters and cards to Irish POWs are always badly needed to boost morale
and to remind POWs and their loved ones that they are not forgotten.
Here are some suggestions when writing for the first time.

1. Pick any POW, or send letters to several.
2. Tell them about yourself and how you heard about them (mention the IFC website).
3. Don't ask about their arrest or case, especially if their trial is coming up.
4. Don't use overtly republican slogans or artwork as your mail may not get through. Bear in mind all mail is censored.
5. Prison guards keep all envelopes - write your name and address on the inside of your card or letter if you want a reply. Put individual POWs name (include Landing/House if available) on the inside of greeting cards.
6. Taped-on or glued-on attachments are not allowed.
7. Don't be disillusioned if some don't write back -- some POWs are allowed to enroll in Open University and may be busy with studies, or may not be the writing type.
8. Letter postage from US is 80 cents per ounce. Mail takes 5 to 10 days or longer in some cases.
