TIPS for WRITING to IRISH REPUBLICAN POWs |
||
|
Letters and cards to Irish POWs are always badly needed to boost morale
|
||
| 1. | Pick any POW, or send letters to several. | |
| 2. | Tell them about yourself and how you heard about them (mention the IFC website). | |
| 3. | Don't ask about their arrest or case, especially if their trial is coming up. | |
| 4. | Don't use overtly republican slogans or artwork as your mail may not get through. Bear in mind all mail is censored. | |
| 5. | Prison guards keep all envelopes - write your name and address on the inside of your card or letter if you want a reply. Put individual POWs name (include Landing/House if available) on the inside of greeting cards. | |
| 6. | Taped-on or glued-on attachments are not allowed. | |
| 7. | Don't be disillusioned if some don't write back -- some POWs are allowed to enroll in Open University and may be busy with studies, or may not be the writing type. | |
| 8. | Letter postage from US is 80 cents per ounce. Mail takes 5 to 10 days or longer in some cases. | |
