November 5, 2006 ------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- ----- IFC BOOKS DRIVE FOR IRISH REPUBLICAN POWS http://www.irishfreedomcommittee.net/POWs/wish_list_of_books_for_ipows.htm ------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- ----- Dear supporter, The Irish Freedom Committee sends our deepest thanks to all of you who participated in our Books Drive for POWs. With your help, we have now received almost every single book the POWs at Maghaberry prison had asked us for – nearly 50 books! These books will go a long way to boost the morale of the Irish republican political prisoners at Maghaberry, who deeply value education and who suffer with woefully inadequate "educational facilities". As our recent IFC delegation to Maghaberry found, educational facilities at that prison are a joke, with classes offered in hairdressing and yoga; and computers installed for show only. At Maghaberry close to 30 Irish Republican POWs remain on a prolonged protest, refusing to eat in their cells where they are forced to eat next to open toilets. The books you have helped provide will be very much appreciated at this gravely difficult time for the republican POWs. We are now receiving requests from POWs at Portlaoise prison, who have also sent us lists of books they would like to have for the Christmas holidays. Please check the IFC POW Book Wish List for these new book titles soon! As with the books requested by the POWs in Maghaberry, we are impressed by the variety of academic and political material requested by the republican POWs.
